The draft 2008 Democratic National Platform includes the “Utopian fantasy that gun control laws will somehow make neighborhoods safer,” said the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms
“While promising to preserve our Second Amendment rights, the party platform demonizes semiautomatic sport utility rifles and wants them banned, calls for anti-gun show legislation and proposes so-called ‘common-sense’ gun laws,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb
“Boiled down, all it really means is that the Democrats are still the party of gun control no matter how they try to re-package the rhetoric”
The Draft 2008 Democratic National Platform includes the following single paragraph on firearms:
We recognize that the right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans’ continued Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation, but we know that what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne. We can work together to enact and enforce common-sense laws and improvements, like closing the gun show loophole, improving our background check system and reinstating the assault weapons ban, so that guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists or criminals.Acting responsibly and with respect for differing views on this issue, we can both protect the constitutional right to bear arms and keep our communities and our children safe
In their party platform, Democrats are “shamelessly telling American gun owners that they embrace the rights of millions of shooters, hunters and gun collectors,” but that isn’t true, Gottlieb said
Democrats believe most gun bans are “common sense.” In their platform, they are calling for a ban on so-called “assault weapons,” and they want to “regulate gun shows out of business”
Gottlieb says the semi-automatic weapons ban signed into law by then-President Bill Clinton “accomplished nothing” except to cost Democrats control of Congress in 1994
And he noted that a study done for the Justice Department found that gun shows are rarely the source of firearms used by criminals
“As Democrats descend on Denver to nominate a candidate who is on record in opposition to sensible concealed carry laws, we encourage gun owners across the country, and especially in Colorado, to remind the party that the Supreme Court in June held that gun bans are unconstitutional

DENVER (CBS4) ― CBS4 News has learned if mass arrests happen at the Democratic Convention, those taken into custody will be jailed in a warehouse owned by the City of Denver.Investigator Rick Sallinger discovered the location and managed to get inside for a look
The newly created lockup is on the northeast side of Denver.Protesters have already given this place a name: "Gitmo on the Platte"
Inside are dozens are metal cages.They are made out of chain link fence material and topped by rolls of barbed wire
"This is a secured environment," Capt. Frank Gale of the Denver Sheriff's Department told CBS4."We're concerned about how that's going to be utilized by people who will be potentially disruptive"
In past conventions, mass arrests have taken place
With Denver's jails already overflowing, new space had to be created and officers trained
Each of the fenced areas is about 5 yards by 5 yards and there is a lock on the door.A sign on the wall reads "Warning! Electric stun devices used in this facility"
CBS4 showed its video to leaders of groups that plan to demonstrate during the convention
"Very bare bones and very reminiscent of a political prisoner camp or a concentration camp," said Zoe Williams of Code Pink
Williams was one of those arrested at the Republican Convention in New York in 2004
"That's how you treat cattle," said Adam Jung of the group Tent State University."You showed the sign where it said stun gun in use and you just change the word gun for bolt and it's a meat processing plant"
Gale would not discuss the facility at this time
"We want to make sure we got our game plan set," he said, "We want to make sure the entire procedure is laid out all the personnel know what they are supposed to do"
The plans were to keep this lockup a secret, at least for now.The sheriff's department said late Tuesday the mayor's office would be releasing a statement about it early next week
The American Civil Liberties Union says it will ask the City of Denver how prisoners will get access to food and water, bathrooms, telephones, plus medical care, and if there will be a place to meet with attorneys

DENVER (CBS4) ― It has the makings of international intrigue.Less than two weeks before the Democratic National Convention a man has been found dead in a Denver hotel room with a container of what authorities initially suspect to be the deadly poison cyanide
Adding to the intrigue is that the dead man, Saleman Abdirahman Dirie, 29, appears to be from outside the U.S.No passport was found on Dirie, who is believed to have entered the country from Canada
A large container of a white powdery substance was found in the man's room on the fourth floor of The Burnsley Hotel at 10th Avenue and Grant Street
Tests are now being done by the Denver Police Crime Lab to determine exactly what the substance is.The tests could take days
It's believed Dirie died from something other than the substance that was in the container
Denver police are leading the investigation of the man's death. The FBI and other governmental agencies, including the Joint Terrorism Task Force, are assisting in the probe.Hazardous materials assistance has included the Colorado State Patrol and the Colorado National Guard
"Our Joint Terrorism Task Force is involved in this simply because the victim here is from another country and it just kind of makes sense that our terrorism guys would take a look a look at this," FBI Special Agent in Charge James Davis said
Davis told CBS 4 that nothing so far has been found to link the case to terrorism or the coming convention
"I don't see how anybody could do anything but look into the possibility that this is a potential terrorist attack," said Dr.Andrew Ternay, a Department of Defense contractor
Ternay has worked with the Pentagon for 25 years.He's published text books and written "The Language of Nightmares" which is a glossary of all things deadly, including cyanide
"The very first thought that came to my mind was murder, or somebody who's got to kill an awful lot of rodents because years ago cyanide used to be used to kill rats and roaches," said Ternay. "A tablespoon would be enough to kill you.Less actually"
Authorities said The Burnsley Hotel is safe and is open for business
Cyanide can be made from plants in very small amounts. It can be a gas, liquid or powder.It prevents the body from using oxygen and therefore is more harmful to the heart and brain than other organs
"It was used in concentration camps in World War II and by Saddam Hussein against the Kurds in the 1990s," CBD4 Medical Editor Dr. Dave Hnida said."And put it in a little capsule, it is in fact used as a suicide pill just like you see in the movies"
Officials said cyanide can be used as a terrorist weapon if it is dumped in water put in food, sprayed as a gas, or many other methods
Ternay said the question with cyanide is how pure it is.If the powder is only 10 percent cyanide, it is not nearly as lethal
Ternay said cyanide can be easy to get if you want a quarter of a pound.Filling out some paperwork is all that is required to order it
Larger amounts of 50 pounds or more are tougher to come by

The terrorists in the federal government are continuing their push to have a fully functioning martial law apparatus. The city of Denver was recently invaded by a large number of military helicopters without any sort of warning given to the general public. It was originally speculated that this training exercise had something to do with the upcoming Democratic National Convention, but a spokesman with Special Operations said that it wasn’t related and that the exercises would last all week. It is interesting that this spokesman said it had nothing to do with the upcoming DNC. If that’s the case, than what is the real purpose of this exercise? They are selling this exercise as an anti-terror drill, but in reality it has nothing to do with stopping terrorism. The terror war has been proven to be a fraud time and time again so it certainly isn’t about fighting the terrorists.As painful as it is to say, the true purpose of the federal government flying military helicopters around Denver without any sort of notification to the public is part of a plan to socially engineer people to the reality of a militarized police state
The Denver Daily News reported on this situation and asked why the public wasn’t informed in advance that these military helicopters would be flying around. The article is largely a white wash of the situation, but it is incredible how the local government spins this military exercise as something that will actually benefit the local community.Below is a statement from the local government on this urban warfare exercise
“The federal agencies sponsoring the ongoing multi-agency training in Denver agreed to make the proper notifications regarding the exercises to prevent surprise and inconvenience to Denver residents.There seems to have been a misunderstanding about the reach and scope of these notifications, and they did not occur in the manner expected by the city
“Although these exercises are in no way connected to the upcoming Democratic National Convention, Denver officials were well aware that there would be heightened sensitivity to an exercise such as this because of its proximity to the convention..
“Denver recognizes that these are our federal partners, and we are fortunate that they have chosen Denver for their training exercises.Should there ever be an emergency here that would require federal assistance, they will be familiar with our city and how best to navigate it”
So according to the local government it is good for the federal government to come in without any announcement to the public and conduct week long training exercises with military helicopters flying around.Needless to say, these types of exercises are not good because the terror war is a fraud and there’s no reason to have military helicopters flying around in a heavily populated area under the guise of this false war
Unfortunately, what is happening in Denver is just part and parcel to other martial law oriented exercises that we’ve seen in recent weeks and months. Just recently, U.S. Marines invaded Indianapolis to conduct martial law training, we have unlawful police checkpoints being setup in Iowa under the guise of protecting people from the flooding, there was also a FEMA camp exercise in Iowa prior to the flooding and finally we have additional reports of black helicopters in Florida.There is no question that these training exercises are simply meant to desensitize the American people to this draconian police state
It is funny that the stooges in the mainstream press paint anyone who talks about black helicopters as a tinfoil hat wearing nut when there are now mainstream news reports of black helicopters flying around in Denver and in Florida. Mainstream news organizations are not in the business of reporting news, but instead are in the business of ensuring the status quo remains the status quo. Martial law exercises are bad enough, but unannounced martial law exercises are even worse.These types of drills that we are seeing in Denver is yet more proof that the federal government is nothing more than a fascist crime syndicate that wants to enslave the American people

Eight Denver hospitals held drills Tuesday to test their abilities to respond to a disaster that would injure thousands of people
The mock exercise — a "dirty bomb" explosion at a Pepsi Center packed with 20,000 people — was one of the largest-ever cooperative drills for the city's hospitals, organizers said
It comes just two months before the Democratic National Convention, when the city will host thousands of people from around the world
About 140 volunteers participated in the citywide drill, many of them acting as victims
Though the hospitals knew there would be a drill, the details became known only as the scenario unfolded
The Office of Emergency Management alerted hospitals about 9 a.m that a chemical bomb had exploded at the arena
At Presbyterian/St Luke's Medical Center, staff members began setting up a decontamination tent outside the emergency room as soon as they received word of the explosion
Shortly after, about 10 volunteer "victims" lined the wall outside the emergency room, waiting to be hosed down
The victims wore tags detailing their injuries and symptoms Jodi Rodgers' tag said she was a 2-year-old boy whose right arm was broken
Rodgers, a nurse at St Joseph Hospital, said she volunteered to make a difference
"In the event of a true disaster, it'll make sure we're prepared," she said
The staff herded victims through the tent, hosing them down with water
They were then sent to the emergency room to receive treatment
Though the hospital was able to set up the tent in just 30 minutes — 15 minutes less than previous drills — the exercise wasn't perfect
Julie Baumer, director of education at the hospital, said the drill revealed some kinks that need to be worked out
For example, the chemical explosion prompted the hospital to spray down patients before they could enter the hospital But some need immediate treatment, such as one "victim" who was in labor
"She'd be screaming bloody murder," Baumer said."And that baby is not going to wait for decontamination So we need to figure out what we'd do right away"
Each hospital will receive an evaluation for Tuesday's exercise
The point of a drill is to identify areas for improvement, said Stephen Cantrill, project director of Colorado BNICE WMD Training Center, which helped organize the effort
"If you have a drill that goes perfectly, no one learns," Cantrill said

Those mysterious black helicopters buzzing Denver last night weren't just your paranoid imagination
For those who missed the racket of several military choppers flying low around downtown and Coors Field during the Colorado Rockies game Monday night, the show isn't over
US military Special Operations commandos will be conducting the airborne training with Denver police SWAT teams and firefighters from early afternoon until 11 p.m through Friday night
It's the end of a two-week joint exercise between special ops troops and police and fire to prepare for a terrorism threat in a "realistic urban environment," said Lt Steve Ruh, a spokesman for the US Special Operations Command, headquartered at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida
"It familiarizes our guys with the inner workings of Denver," said Ruh, who is in town for the exercise "They get a good idea of how the city is laid out and how to work with different agencies
"It's all in preparation for anything that could possibly happen with the global war on terrorism," said Ruh, whose command coordinates all military branches' crack commando units — from Army Rangers to Navy SEALS
The Special Operations Command calls itself the "Tip of the Spear" against the nation's gravest threats Its mission is to "plan and synchronize operations against terrorist networks," according the command's Web site
Some people were thrilled to see Black Hawk assault helicopters and MH-6 "Little Bird" choppers in action, but others grumbled about the window-rattling night flights
Becky Alfrey watched in amazement as the whirlybirds whizzed her 13th-floor flat, "darting in-between the buildings downtown"
"I waved at one of the copters and someone waved back!" she said, adding that the tethered, camouflaged commandos "were literally hanging half out of the helicopter"
Alfrey was more excited than annoyed, but added: "At 10:30 p.m I did turn on my air-conditioning fan (to drown out the choppers), because it was a little noisy"
Some Rockies fans complained about the distraction of the helicopters repeatedly circling Coors Field — but no one blamed the military for the 7-1 blowout by the Atlanta Braves
Denver police received several calls about the helicopters
"Unfortunately, if it's a small inconvenience to those people who are not sleeping that well at night, flight ops do stop at ... 11 p.m So, in my mind, it's a small inconvenience to pay for freedom," Ruh said
He dismissed reports that the exercise was preparation for the Democratic National Convention coming to Denver in August
"I couldn't speak for the police department," Ruh said."But absolutely not for Special Operations Command We have nothing to do with the Democratic National Convention"
He noted that similar counterterrorism exercises have been conducted in Manhattan, Los Angeles and Houston
Yet, even among city spokespersons, there was confusion over who was conducting the training
"That's a Department of Justice deal.It's their baby," Denver police spokesman Detective John White said today "They gave us the heads up that they were going to be conducting the exercise"
But US Attorney's Office spokesman Jeff Dorschner said: "This is not our deal" The Special Operations Command's Ruh confirmed the Justice Department had nothing to do with it
Given the high-profile — loud — nature of the night flights, wouldn't it have been smart publicity to alert the public before exercises began?
"Advance notice was given to the (Denver) civil authorities.We were here as guests," Ruh said "It would be up to (local authorities) to send it out"

NEWTOWN, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, at a meeting of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition he founded, announced today the Responsible Firearms Retail Partnership program with Wal-Mart. The retailer has agreed to retain records of purchasers of firearms that are later traced by law enforcement for reasons never disclosed to Wal-Mart.The retailer also agreed to run background checks on its employees handling firearms
Commenting on today’s announcement the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) – the firearms industry’s trade association – said the partnership’s name gives the false impression that federally licensed firearms dealers are somehow irresponsible. “Today’s announcement reflects Mayor Bloomberg’s troubling ignorance and misunderstanding of what can – and cannot – be gleaned from data of guns recovered by law enforcement and traced from the manufacturer to the first retailer purchaser,” said NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane.The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) maintain this trace data
ATF has said repeatedly, “The appearance of [a licensed dealer] or a first unlicensed purchaser of record in association with a crime gun or in association with multiple crime guns in no way suggests that either the federal firearms licensed dealer (FFL) or the first purchaser has committed criminal acts.Rather, such information may provide a starting point for further and more detailed investigation” (Crime Gun Trace Analysis Reports, ATF, 1998)
NSSF has never opposed background checks on firearm retailer employees. “We have had a program to assist our members in running background checks on their prospective employees at a discounted rate,” said Keane.“NSSF would consider supporting legislation to allow gun dealers to conduct background checks on prospective employees through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), which is currently prohibited by law”
“It is stunning that a mayor who claims to be interested in combating the criminal acquisition and misuse of firearms would continue to insult ATF and federal firearms licensees,” continued Keane. He was alluding to Mayor Bloomberg’s March 10, 2008, deposition (part 1 of deposition, part 2 of deposition) – part of a lawsuit filed by the City of New York against several out-of-state firearms dealers.During the deposition Bloomberg testified he stood by his earlier statements that ATF is “asleep at the switch,” and added that the agency is “not doing their job” (page 52)
Perhaps the mayor’s insults stems from his self-professed ignorance of our nation’s firearms laws and regulations, business practices of firearms retailers and the duties of the ATF. “I don’t know what the law is and what procedures are,” responded the mayor to a deposition question on illegally purchased firearms (page 35).“I have no knowledge of what appropriate safeguards are for a dealer to comply with the law or what standard practices are in the arms business” (page 74)
In the same deposition Mr. Bloomberg admitted he did not know that ATF conducted inspections of firearms retailers. “I didn’t even know they had inspections,” the bewildered mayor offered (page 58). Mr. Bloomberg also noted that he did not know what a Federal Firearms Transaction Record commonly known as a Form 4473 was (page 75) or a NICS background check (page 79). Of course, before a licensed firearms dealer can sell a firearm the law requires the purchaser to complete, under penalty of perjury, a Form 4473. The form asks detailed questions about the purchaser including any past crimes committed and whether they are the actual buyer of the gun.Once the form is completed, and before the licensed dealer can transfer the firearm, the purchaser must pass a mandatory background check through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System or NICS, which is run by the FBI
Mr. Bloomberg has rebuffed past firearms industry requests to educate him about industry’s cooperative relations with law enforcement in assisting them in their efforts to reduce criminal access to firearms. For example, the partnership program between NSSF and ATF called Don’t Lie for the Other Guy. In this program NSSF helps ATF to better educate America’s firearms retailers on how to detect would-be straw purchasers and to raise public awareness that it is a serious crime to buy a firearm for a prohibited person. At his deposition, the mayor testified the program was “totally foreign” to him.Ironically, however, at his May 2006 press conference announcing his lawsuit against out-of-state firearms retailers, the ATF-Industry "Don’t Lie" program was featured in a video clip where a firearms retailer “does the right thing” and refuses to sell a firearm to a perceived straw purchaser
“The mayor’s deposition and past statements make it clear that today’s announcement was nothing but a publicity stunt,” concluded Keane

The irony is that most Wal-Mart stores in major cities no longer sell firearms and Bloomberg’s demand for stringent checks of IDs in a city that has a “sanctuary” policy for illegal aliens
WASHINGTON (NY Sun) — Mayor Bloomberg, having had little success drawing federal lawmakers to his fight against illegal guns, is turning his attention to the nation’s largest firearms seller
The mayor yesterday announced what he characterized as a groundbreaking partnership with Wal-Mart to beef up its standards for gun sales at 1,100 locations nationwide.The 10-point voluntary agreement is aimed at enhancing the chain’s ability to keep guns away from criminals and the mentally disabled
“Wal-Mart clearly shares our goals, and their commitment to public safety really is commendable,” Mr. Bloomberg said at the outset of the third annual summit of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition he formed in 2006.The mayor said he hoped the agreement would establish a “Wal-Mart standard” of best practices for gun dealers across the country
The partnership gives Mr. Bloomberg a key private sector ally in his campaign against illegal firearm sales, which has drawn the fury of gun rights groups and manufacturers.The mayor has struggled to get Congress to sign on to his agenda, and he was stymied last year in an aggressive push to repeal a law that restricts the use of gun tracing data by law enforcement
Under the pact, Wal-Mart will videotape all gun purchases at its stores and keep the tapes for six months, and it will conduct criminal background checks on all employees selling or handling firearms. The chain will also implement a computerized alert system to flag customers with suspicious purchasing histories. NEW YORK (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc, the world's largest retailer, unveiled plans on Monday to film its gun sales in the United States and create a computerized log of purchases in a bid to stop guns falling into the wrong hands
Wal-Mart, which is the largest seller of firearms in the United States, agreed a 10-point code, which also includes rigid inventory controls, with a bipartisan coalition of Mayors Against Illegal Guns led by New York's Michael Bloomberg
The retailer said it will develop a first-of-its-kind computerized crime gun trace log that will flag purchases by customers who have previously bought guns later recovered in crimes
"Wal-Mart currently uses a strong point of sale system," said J.P. Suarez, senior vice president and chief compliance officer of Wal-Mart. "This code is a way for us to fine-tune the things we're already doing and further strengthen our standards.We hope other retailers will join us"
The Responsible Firearms Retailer Partnership is designed to strengthen the points in the gun purchasing system that criminals have exploited in the past, Wal-Mart and the Mayors Against Illegal Guns said
According to the U.S.Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, 46 percent of its criminal gun trafficking investigations involved cases in which someone who is not legally allowed to purchase a firearm does so through the use of a proxy, known as a straw buyer

The draft 2008 Democratic National Platform includes the “Utopian fantasy that gun control laws will somehow make neighborhoods safer,” said the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms
“While promising to preserve our Second Amendment rights, the party platform demonizes semiautomatic sport utility rifles and wants them banned, calls for anti-gun show legislation and proposes so-called ‘common-sense’ gun laws,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb
“Boiled down, all it really means is that the Democrats are still the party of gun control no matter how they try to re-package the rhetoric”
The Draft 2008 Democratic National Platform includes the following single paragraph on firearms:

In their party platform, Democrats are “shamelessly telling American gun owners that they embrace the rights of millions of shooters, hunters and gun collectors,” but that isn’t true, Gottlieb said
Democrats believe most gun bans are “common sense.” In their platform, they are calling for a ban on so-called “assault weapons,” and they want to “regulate gun shows out of business”
Gottlieb says the semi-automatic weapons ban signed into law by then-President Bill Clinton “accomplished nothing” except to cost Democrats control of Congress in 1994
And he noted that a study done for the Justice Department found that gun shows are rarely the source of firearms used by criminals

DENVER (CBS4) ― It has the makings of international intrigue.Less than two weeks before the Democratic National Convention a man has been found dead in a Denver hotel room with a container of what authorities initially suspect to be the deadly poison cyanide
Adding to the intrigue is that the dead man, Saleman Abdirahman Dirie, 29, appears to be from outside the U.S.No passport was found on Dirie, who is believed to have entered the country from Canada
A large container of a white powdery substance was found in the man's room on the fourth floor of The Burnsley Hotel at 10th Avenue and Grant Street
Tests are now being done by the Denver Police Crime Lab to determine exactly what the substance is.The tests could take days
It's believed Dirie died from something other than the substance that was in the container
Denver police are leading the investigation of the man's death. The FBI and other governmental agencies, including the Joint Terrorism Task Force, are assisting in the probe.Hazardous materials assistance has included the Colorado State Patrol and the Colorado National Guard
"Our Joint Terrorism Task Force is involved in this simply because the victim here is from another country and it just kind of makes sense that our terrorism guys would take a look a look at this," FBI Special Agent in Charge James Davis said
Davis told CBS 4 that nothing so far has been found to link the case to terrorism or the coming convention
"I don't see how anybody could do anything but look into the possibility that this is a potential terrorist attack," said Dr.Andrew Ternay, a Department of Defense contractor
Ternay has worked with the Pentagon for 25 years.He's published text books and written "The Language of Nightmares" which is a glossary of all things deadly, including cyanide
"The very first thought that came to my mind was murder, or somebody who's got to kill an awful lot of rodents because years ago cyanide used to be used to kill rats and roaches," said Ternay. "A tablespoon would be enough to kill you.Less actually"
Authorities said The Burnsley Hotel is safe and is open for business
Cyanide can be made from plants in very small amounts. It can be a gas, liquid or powder.It prevents the body from using oxygen and therefore is more harmful to the heart and brain than other organs
"It was used in concentration camps in World War II and by Saddam Hussein against the Kurds in the 1990s," CBD4 Medical Editor Dr. Dave Hnida said."And put it in a little capsule, it is in fact used as a suicide pill just like you see in the movies"
Officials said cyanide can be used as a terrorist weapon if it is dumped in water put in food, sprayed as a gas, or many other methods
Ternay said the question with cyanide is how pure it is.If the powder is only 10 percent cyanide, it is not nearly as lethal
Ternay said cyanide can be easy to get if you want a quarter of a pound.Filling out some paperwork is all that is required to order it

The terrorists in the federal government are continuing their push to have a fully functioning martial law apparatus. The city of Denver was recently invaded by a large number of military helicopters without any sort of warning given to the general public. It was originally speculated that this training exercise had something to do with the upcoming Democratic National Convention, but a spokesman with Special Operations said that it wasn’t related and that the exercises would last all week. It is interesting that this spokesman said it had nothing to do with the upcoming DNC. If that’s the case, than what is the real purpose of this exercise? They are selling this exercise as an anti-terror drill, but in reality it has nothing to do with stopping terrorism. The terror war has been proven to be a fraud time and time again so it certainly isn’t about fighting the terrorists.As painful as it is to say, the true purpose of the federal government flying military helicopters around Denver without any sort of notification to the public is part of a plan to socially engineer people to the reality of a militarized police state
The Denver Daily News reported on this situation and asked why the public wasn’t informed in advance that these military helicopters would be flying around. The article is largely a white wash of the situation, but it is incredible how the local government spins this military exercise as something that will actually benefit the local community.Below is a statement from the local government on this urban warfare exercise
“The federal agencies sponsoring the ongoing multi-agency training in Denver agreed to make the proper notifications regarding the exercises to prevent surprise and inconvenience to Denver residents.There seems to have been a misunderstanding about the reach and scope of these notifications, and they did not occur in the manner expected by the city
“Although these exercises are in no way connected to the upcoming Democratic National Convention, Denver officials were well aware that there would be heightened sensitivity to an exercise such as this because of its proximity to the convention..
“Denver recognizes that these are our federal partners, and we are fortunate that they have chosen Denver for their training exercises.Should there ever be an emergency here that would require federal assistance, they will be familiar with our city and how best to navigate it”
So according to the local government it is good for the federal government to come in without any announcement to the public and conduct week long training exercises with military helicopters flying around.Needless to say, these types of exercises are not good because the terror war is a fraud and there’s no reason to have military helicopters flying around in a heavily populated area under the guise of this false war
Unfortunately, what is happening in Denver is just part and parcel to other martial law oriented exercises that we’ve seen in recent weeks and months. Just recently, U.S. Marines invaded Indianapolis to conduct martial law training, we have unlawful police checkpoints being setup in Iowa under the guise of protecting people from the flooding, there was also a FEMA camp exercise in Iowa prior to the flooding and finally we have additional reports of black helicopters in Florida.There is no question that these training exercises are simply meant to desensitize the American people to this draconian police state
It is funny that the stooges in the mainstream press paint anyone who talks about black helicopters as a tinfoil hat wearing nut when there are now mainstream news reports of black helicopters flying around in Denver and in Florida. Mainstream news organizations are not in the business of reporting news, but instead are in the business of ensuring the status quo remains the status quo. Eight Denver hospitals held drills Tuesday to test their abilities to respond to a disaster that would injure thousands of people
The mock exercise — a "dirty bomb" explosion at a Pepsi Center packed with 20,000 people — was one of the largest-ever cooperative drills for the city's hospitals, organizers said
It comes just two months before the Democratic National Convention, when the city will host thousands of people from around the world
About 140 volunteers participated in the citywide drill, many of them acting as victims
Though the hospitals knew there would be a drill, the details became known only as the scenario unfolded
The Office of Emergency Management alerted hospitals about 9 a.m that a chemical bomb had exploded at the arena
At Presbyterian/St Luke's Medical Center, staff members began setting up a decontamination tent outside the emergency room as soon as they received word of the explosion
Shortly after, about 10 volunteer "victims" lined the wall outside the emergency room, waiting to be hosed down
The victims wore tags detailing their injuries and symptoms Jodi Rodgers' tag said she was a 2-year-old boy whose right arm was broken
Rodgers, a nurse at St Joseph Hospital, said she volunteered to make a difference
"In the event of a true disaster, it'll make sure we're prepared," she said
The staff herded victims through the tent, hosing them down with water
They were then sent to the emergency room to receive treatment
Though the hospital was able to set up the tent in just 30 minutes — 15 minutes less than previous drills — the exercise wasn't perfect
Julie Baumer, director of education at the hospital, said the drill revealed some kinks that need to be worked out
For example, the chemical explosion prompted the hospital to spray down patients before they could enter the hospital But some need immediate treatment, such as one "victim" who was in labor
"She'd be screaming bloody murder," Baumer said."And that baby is not going to wait for decontamination So we need to figure out what we'd do right away"
Each hospital will receive an evaluation for Tuesday's exercise
The point of a drill is to identify areas for improvement, said Stephen Cantrill, project director of Colorado BNICE WMD Training Center, which helped organize the effort
"If you have a drill that goes perfectly, no one learns," Cantrill said

Those mysterious black helicopters buzzing Denver last night weren't just your paranoid imagination
For those who missed the racket of several military choppers flying low around downtown and Coors Field during the Colorado Rockies game Monday night, the show isn't over
US military Special Operations commandos will be conducting the airborne training with Denver police SWAT teams and firefighters from early afternoon until 11 p.m through Friday night
It's the end of a two-week joint exercise between special ops troops and police and fire to prepare for a terrorism threat in a "realistic urban environment," said Lt Steve Ruh, a spokesman for the US Special Operations Command, headquartered at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida
"It familiarizes our guys with the inner workings of Denver," said Ruh, who is in town for the exercise "They get a good idea of how the city is laid out and how to work with different agencies
"It's all in preparation for anything that could possibly happen with the global war on terrorism," said Ruh, whose command coordinates all military branches' crack commando units — from Army Rangers to Navy SEALS
The Special Operations Command calls itself the "Tip of the Spear" against the nation's gravest threats Its mission is to "plan and synchronize operations against terrorist networks," according the command's Web site
Some people were thrilled to see Black Hawk assault helicopters and MH-6 "Little Bird" choppers in action, but others grumbled about the window-rattling night flights
Becky Alfrey watched in amazement as the whirlybirds whizzed her 13th-floor flat, "darting in-between the buildings downtown"
"I waved at one of the copters and someone waved back!" she said, adding that the tethered, camouflaged commandos "were literally hanging half out of the helicopter"
Alfrey was more excited than annoyed, but added: "At 10:30 p.m I did turn on my air-conditioning fan (to drown out the choppers), because it was a little noisy"
Some Rockies fans complained about the distraction of the helicopters repeatedly circling Coors Field — but no one blamed the military for the 7-1 blowout by the Atlanta Braves
Denver police received several calls about the helicopters
"Unfortunately, if it's a small inconvenience to those people who are not sleeping that well at night, flight ops do stop at ... 11 p.m So, in my mind, it's a small inconvenience to pay for freedom," Ruh said
He dismissed reports that the exercise was preparation for the Democratic National Convention coming to Denver in August
"I couldn't speak for the police department," Ruh said."But absolutely not for Special Operations Command We have nothing to do with the Democratic National Convention"
He noted that similar counterterrorism exercises have been conducted in Manhattan, Los Angeles and Houston
Yet, even among city spokespersons, there was confusion over who was conducting the training
"That's a Department of Justice deal.It's their baby," Denver police spokesman Detective John White said today "They gave us the heads up that they were going to be conducting the exercise"
But US Attorney's Office spokesman Jeff Dorschner said: "This is not our deal" The Special Operations Command's Ruh confirmed the Justice Department had nothing to do with it
Given the high-profile — loud — nature of the night flights, wouldn't it have been smart publicity to alert the public before exercises began?
"Advance notice was given to the (Denver) civil authorities.We were here as guests," Ruh said "It would be up to (local authorities) to send it out"

The retailer has agreed to retain records of purchasers of firearms that are later traced by law enforcement for reasons never disclosed to Wal-Mart.The retailer also agreed to run background checks on its employees handling firearms
Commenting on today’s announcement the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) – the firearms industry’s trade association – said the partnership’s name gives the false impression that federally licensed firearms dealers are somehow irresponsible. “Today’s announcement reflects Mayor Bloomberg’s troubling ignorance and misunderstanding of what can – and cannot – be gleaned from data of guns recovered by law enforcement and traced from the manufacturer to the first retailer purchaser,” said NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane.The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) maintain this trace data
ATF has said repeatedly, “The appearance of [a licensed dealer] or a first unlicensed purchaser of record in association with a crime gun or in association with multiple crime guns in no way suggests that either the federal firearms licensed dealer (FFL) or the first purchaser has committed criminal acts.Rather, such information may provide a starting point for further and more detailed investigation” (Crime Gun Trace Analysis Reports, ATF, 1998)
NSSF has never opposed background checks on firearm retailer employees. “We have had a program to assist our members in running background checks on their prospective employees at a discounted rate,” said Keane.“NSSF would consider supporting legislation to allow gun dealers to conduct background checks on prospective employees through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), which is currently prohibited by law”
“It is stunning that a mayor who claims to be interested in combating the criminal acquisition and misuse of firearms would continue to insult ATF and federal firearms licensees,” continued Keane. He was alluding to Mayor Bloomberg’s March 10, 2008, deposition (part 1 of deposition, part 2 of deposition) – part of a lawsuit filed by the City of New York against several out-of-state firearms dealers.During the deposition Bloomberg testified he stood by his earlier statements that ATF is “asleep at the switch,” and added that the agency is “not doing their job” (page 52)
Perhaps the mayor’s insults stems from his self-professed ignorance of our nation’s firearms laws and regulations, business practices of firearms retailers and the duties of the ATF. “I don’t know what the law is and what procedures are,” responded the mayor to a deposition question on illegally purchased firearms (page 35).“I have no knowledge of what appropriate safeguards are for a dealer to comply with the law or what standard practices are in the arms business” (page 74)
In the same deposition Mr. Bloomberg admitted he did not know that ATF conducted inspections of firearms retailers. “I didn’t even know they had inspections,” the bewildered mayor offered (page 58). Mr. Bloomberg also noted that he did not know what a Federal Firearms Transaction Record commonly known as a Form 4473 was (page 75) or a NICS background check (page 79). Of course, before a licensed firearms dealer can sell a firearm the law requires the purchaser to complete, under penalty of perjury, a Form 4473. The form asks detailed questions about the purchaser including any past crimes committed and whether they are the actual buyer of the gun.Once the form is completed, and before the licensed dealer can transfer the firearm, the purchaser must pass a mandatory background check through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System or NICS, which is run by the FBI
Mr. Bloomberg has rebuffed past firearms industry requests to educate him about industry’s cooperative relations with law enforcement in assisting them in their efforts to reduce criminal access to firearms. For example, the partnership program between NSSF and ATF called Don’t Lie for the Other Guy. In this program NSSF helps ATF to better educate America’s firearms retailers on how to detect would-be straw purchasers and to raise public awareness that it is a serious crime to buy a firearm for a prohibited person. At his deposition, the mayor testified the program was “totally foreign” to him.Ironically, however, at his May 2006 press conference announcing his lawsuit against out-of-state firearms retailers, the ATF-Industry "Don’t Lie" program was featured in a video clip where a firearms retailer “does the right thing” and refuses to sell a firearm to a perceived straw purchaser

Wal-Mart, the one time leader in discount outdoor sports equipment, signed on to New York City Mayor Bloomberg’s war against the 2nd Ammendment and what the mayor refers to as “illegal guns” just to gain favor in it’s agenda to open stores in the five boroughs
The irony is that most Wal-Mart stores in major cities no longer sell firearms and Bloomberg’s demand for stringent checks of IDs in a city that has a “sanctuary” policy for illegal aliens
WASHINGTON (NY Sun) — Mayor Bloomberg, having had little success drawing federal lawmakers to his fight against illegal guns, is turning his attention to the nation’s largest firearms seller
The mayor yesterday announced what he characterized as a groundbreaking partnership with Wal-Mart to beef up its standards for gun sales at 1,100 locations nationwide.The 10-point voluntary agreement is aimed at enhancing the chain’s ability to keep guns away from criminals and the mentally disabled
“Wal-Mart clearly shares our goals, and their commitment to public safety really is commendable,” Mr. Bloomberg said at the outset of the third annual summit of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition he formed in 2006.The mayor said he hoped the agreement would establish a “Wal-Mart standard” of best practices for gun dealers across the country
The partnership gives Mr. Bloomberg a key private sector ally in his campaign against illegal firearm sales, which has drawn the fury of gun rights groups and manufacturers.The mayor has struggled to get Congress to sign on to his agenda, and he was stymied last year in an aggressive push to repeal a law that restricts the use of gun tracing data by law enforcement
Under the pact, Wal-Mart will videotape all gun purchases at its stores and keep the tapes for six months, and it will conduct criminal background checks on all employees selling or handling firearms. The chain will also implement a computerized alert system to flag customers with suspicious purchasing histories. Other aspects of the agreement include enhanced inventory checks and security measures to prevent lost and stolen guns, along with more stringent checks of customer IDs. “This code is an avenue for Wal-Mart to strengthen our standards, and we hope other retailers will follow suit,” a senior vice president of Wal-Mart and its chief compliance officer, J.P. Suarez, said.The company, he said, shares “the goal of making sure that guns don’t reach the wrong hands”
Wal-Mart has tried without success to open its first store in the five boroughs, but Mr. Suarez told The New York Sun that the partnership with Mr. Bloomberg and his coalition would have no impact on those efforts. “We’re doing it because we believe it’s the right thing,” he said.As for a potential Wal-Mart in New York City, he said: “We continue to evaluate sites”
Ms. Bloomberg suggested Wal-Mart was more than welcome.“Companies that understand that they have an obligation to the people that they sell to and the communities that they exist in are the kind of companies that we want in New York City,” he said, “and I think every city should want”

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc, the world's largest retailer, unveiled plans on Monday to film its gun sales in the United States and create a computerized log of purchases in a bid to stop guns falling into the wrong hands
Wal-Mart, which is the largest seller of firearms in the United States, agreed a 10-point code, which also includes rigid inventory controls, with a bipartisan coalition of Mayors Against Illegal Guns led by New York's Michael Bloomberg
The retailer said it will develop a first-of-its-kind computerized crime gun trace log that will flag purchases by customers who have previously bought guns later recovered in crimes
"Wal-Mart currently uses a strong point of sale system," said J.P. Suarez, senior vice president and chief compliance officer of Wal-Mart. "This code is a way for us to fine-tune the things we're already doing and further strengthen our standards.We hope other retailers will join us"
The Responsible Firearms Retailer Partnership is designed to strengthen the points in the gun purchasing system that criminals have exploited in the past, Wal-Mart and the Mayors Against Illegal Guns said
According to the U.S.Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, 46 percent of its criminal gun trafficking investigations involved cases in which someone who is not legally allowed to purchase a firearm does so through the use of a proxy, known as a straw buyer
