Former US president Jimmy Carter says the Zionist regime possesses 150 nuclear warheads in its arsenal, according to The Times of London

His statement appeared to be the first time a former US president states publicly the amount of nuclear warheads Israel supposedly has in its possession, DPA reported

According to The Times, Carter made the remark at the Hay-on-Wye festival in Wales, which promotes current affairs books and literature

Since his presidency, Carter has over the years become known as a fierce critic of Israel's policies

The southern town of Dimona is home to a reactor that is the centerpiece of Israel's illegal nuclear weapons program.
The regime began developing a nuclear reactor in Dimona in the 1950s

The Zionist regime is reportedly the only nuclear-armed country in the Middle East which has refused to sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty

USA will BLEED for Israel's survival, even if it takes Israeli agent Michael Chertoff's arrest of dissenting US citizens during DHS FEMA disaster - as Jerusalem will be the NWO SATANIST capital of the world!

During U.S. President George W. Bush's visit to Israel, which is scheduled to begin this morning with the American president landing at Ben-Gurion International Airport, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is expected to ask Bush to upgrade substantially the security relationship between Israel and the U.
S, according to sources close to Olmert

Olmert's people are leaning, said the sources, toward presenting the visiting president with a list of weapon systems that Israel wants to purchase or otherwise gain access to. Next month Olmert is scheduled to visit Washington D.
C for 48 hours, expecting to receive Bush's answer on the possibility of supplying the items on the list

The Prime Minister's Office, the defense and foreign ministries, the Israel Defense Forces and other government bodies have have been engaged for two weeks in prioritizing the objectives that Israel hopes to secure during Bush's visit

During deliberations, the parties agreed to focus on the issue of Iran's suspected drive toward nuclear weapons capability and on suggestions to tighten Israeli-American cooperation on this matter

"We attribute a lot of importance to this visit, because strategic issues of great significance will be discussed," sources from the Prime Minister's Bureau told Haaretz yesterday

US looks set to offer Israel powerful new radar

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration appears set to offer Israel a powerful radar system that could greatly boost Israeli defenses against enemy ballistic missiles while tying them directly into a growing U.
S missile shield

President George W. Bush is expected to discuss the matter during a visit to Israel starting on Wednesday to mark the 60th anniversary of the Jewish state amid mounting U.
S concern over perceived threats from Iran, people familiar with the matter said

This is "probably the No. 2 issue" on Bush's agenda for the visit, second only to the Middle East peace process, said Rep. Mark Kirk, an Illinois Republican who has spearheaded calls in Congress for tighter U.
S missile-defense ties with Israel

Gordon Johndroe, a White House spokesman, said in an e-mail, "While the U.S.
and Israel cooperate closely on defense matters, there will not be any announcements during next week's visit" Bush is also to visit Saudi Arabia and Egypt

Richard Lehner, a spokesman for the Pentagon's Missile Defense Agency, which is developing the multibillion-dollar layered shield, said questions about a new radar system for Israel were a "policy issue" outside the agency's purview

Riki Ellison, a prominent missile-defense advocate with close ties to the Pentagon and companies involved in building the hardware, said he understood giving Israel the missile-tracking system was "on the table right now"

The system Bush may offer is known as a forward-based X-band radar Transportable by air, it uses high-powered pulsed beams for extremely high-resolution tracking of objects in space such as a missile that could be tipped with a chemical, germ or nuclear warhead

Built by Raytheon Co, the system has been described by U.
S officials as capable of tracking an object the size of a baseball from about 2,900 miles away

It would let Israel's Arrow missile defenses engage a Shahab-3 ballistic missile about halfway through what would be its 11-minute flight to Israel from Iran, or six times sooner than Israel's "Green Pine" radar is currently capable of doing, Kirk said in a telephone interview on Friday

'PARTING GIFT' FROM BUSH?

Kirk is a commander in the U.S.
Naval Reserves who confers with Israeli officials on missile defense He serves one weekend a month as deputy director of intelligence in the Pentagon's National Military Command Center

With an X-Band system at work, he said, a missile intercept theoretically would take place over Iran or a neighboring state and not over Israel

"This is the best thing to lower tensions between Israel and Iran" because Iran presumably would be less likely to attack under such circumstances, Kirk said

Nearly 70 members of Congress, including the top Democrat and Republican on the House of Representatives Armed Services Committee, sent a letter to Bush this week urging him to offer a warning radar that is "fully integrated" with the emerging U.
S shield

The letter, dated May 5 and co-authored by Kirk and California Democratic Rep Jane Harman, cited a call by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for Israel to be "wiped off the map" and said Iran's ballistic missile program was expanding

An X-band radar would improve "battle management," adding to "early warning" from Israel's access since 2001 to the Defense Support Program military satellite network, hub of a U.
S system to detect missile launches worldwide, the letter said

An Israeli defense official said Israel had discussed a range of "parting gifts" from Bush, who leaves office on January 20, including military pacts and technologies

Lehner, the spokesman for the U.
S Missile Defense Agency, said the Pentagon was planning to have four transportable X-band radars, including one already set up near Shariki in northern Japan to guard against missiles that could be fired by North Korea

A second is due to be deployed at an unspecified location near Iran, possibly in eastern Turkey or Georgia, assuming permission is granted In addition, the United States is awaiting final approval for a large, fixed-site, tracking radar in the Czech Republic scheduled for deployment by 2013

The transportable X-band radar sites could "go wherever they are needed" at the request of U.
S combatant commanders, Lehner said

This goes to say, USA is controlled by the ZIONIST ISRAEL REGIME! Israel SECRETLY possesses over 200 thermal nuclear weapons, and it is the ONLY nuclear power on this planet that is not part of the NUCLEAR NON PROLIFERATION TREATY! All their nuclear arsenal are produced at the DIMONA NUCLEAR FACILITY!

Why should ISRAEL BE SO SPECIAL? Because USA is backing it 100%, and the Satanist Jesuits are backing it 100% TOO! Not to mention US taxpayers are paying an average of $10,000 per Israeli household!

So what does this article tell you? USA IS HELPING ISRAEL TO BUILD MORE NUCLEAR WEAPONS amidst a catastrophic war against IRAN and the WORLD!

WAKE UP AMERICANS! YOU ARE ALL GOING TO PAY A DEAR PRICE WHEN BOMBS STARTS DROPPING ONTO IRAN BECAUSE RUSSIA AND CHINA WILL NOT STAND FOR IT!

The United States and the Zionist regime have inked an agreement to forge cooperation in the field of nuclear safety a few days ago

It is claimed that the new deal is aimed to ensure the aging nuclear reactor in Dimona operates safely

The agreement enables the Zionist regime to have wide access to the latest nuclear safety data, procedures and technology available in the US, the Israeli online daily Ha'aretz reports

The deal was inked several days ago between Director of Israel atomic energy commission Shaul Horev and the Chairman of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Dale Klein

The Dimona reactor which was established five decades ago is used by Israel to develop nuclear arms Since it is not under international supervision and covers up its classified activities, there are concerns regarding the safety of its operations

The Zionist regime has refused to sign the Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and has about 200 nuclear warheads capable of being mounted on long-range missiles as well as a stockpile of chemical and biological weapons

The US has always vetoed the UN Security Council resolutions critical of Israel

Israel’s plans to Wage Nuclear War on Iran: History of Israel's Nuclear Arsenal
*****************************************************************************

Hundreds of nuclear warheads under the control of Israel's defense establishment

Global Research, January 15, 2007

by Michael Carmichael

http://www. globalresearch. ca/index. php?context=viewArticle&c...

In 1986, an Israeli civil servant who worked in the state-owned nuclear industry flew to London where he was invited to meet with reporters working for The Sunday Times In these press briefings, Mordechai Vanunu revealed Israel’s top secret - the Israelis had gained control of a growing stockpile of nuclear warheads

In the weeks immediately following these explosive revelations, Mr Vanunu visited Rome where Israeli espionage agents abducted him and forced his return to Israel. Back in Tel Aviv, Mr Vanunu was placed on trial for treason.
Tried before a secret tribunal, Mr Vanunu’s conviction was a foregone conclusion, and he served an eighteen-year prison sentence with eleven of those years in solitary confinement

Released in 2004, Mr Vanunu was placed under orders prohibiting him from travel to other nations where he has been offered academic posts. Mr Vanunu is now living in the sanctuary of a Christian Church in Israel, but this refuge has not stopped his political persecution by the government of Israel.
Since his release, Mr Vanunu has been arrested four times, and he is now facing 21 charges of contravening a lawful direction, a charge that carries a penalty of two years in prison for each count (ie 42 years)

The European Parliament condemned the state of Israel’s persecution of Mr. Vanunu. Amnesty International published a report charging that Israel’s treatment of Mr. Vanunu was, “cruel, inhuman and degrading . .
such as is prohibited by international law”

Since his exposé of Israel’s nuclear arsenal, Mr. Vanunu has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize a total of seventeen times.
Even though Joseph Rotblat placed Mr Vanunu’s name in nomination, Vanunu’s Nobel nominations have always faced systematic opposition organized by friends and supporters of the state of Israel who wield immense influence in the Nobel deliberations

In 1987, Mr. Vanunu received the alternative Nobel Peace Prize (ie.
the Right Livelihood Award) In 2005, he was awarded the Peace Prize of the Norwegian people and an honorary doctorate from the prestigious University of Tromso

The state of Israel has consistently blocked Mr. Vanunu’s taking up his academic post as a Lecturer in history at the University of Glasgow. The Israeli government prohibits Mr.
Vanunu from traveling beyond their borders apparently for fear that he will hold press briefings about their now well-known arsenal of nuclear weapons Expert opinions vary but some now rank Israel third or fourth behind only the USA, Russia and possibly France in holding the largest stockpile of nuclear weapons

In addition to the nuclear devices themselves, Israel has a formidable arsenal of delivery systems. Israel’s Shavit rocket has been used to launch satellites into orbit, and the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists reported that the Shavit could be converted to an ICBM with a range of 7,000 miles allowing an Israeli nuclear strike anywhere in the Middle East as well as eastern and western Europe and Central Asia.
Additionally, Israel now has a fleet of Dolphin class submarines armed with cruise missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists reported that Israel may have developed nuclear artillery shells as well as nuclear land-mines that could be deployed in the Golan Heights to discourage Syrian designs on the region

Israeli nuclear submarine

Even though the existence of Israel’s nuclear arsenal is now a well-established fact, the state of Israel has consistently refused to confirm its nuclear status.
Furthermore, Israel refuses to become a party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Israel’s adamant nuclear insularity and denials have created tensions – not only in the Middle East – but globally

America’s acquiescence to the Israeli nuclear arsenal may have encouraged India, Pakistan, North Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia and other states now known to be capable of developing nuclear capabilities. For instance, in 2003, leading members of the government of Saudi Arabia announced that due to worsening relations with the United States they were considering the development of nuclear weapons.
The worsening relations between Saudi Arabia and the United States are predicated upon the policies of Israel: its rogue nuclear arsenal and its harsh treatment of Palestinians in the Occupied Territories Some reports indicate that India has secretly provided Saudi Arabia with nuclear weapons

In the early 1990s, one of America’s premiere journalists, Seymour Hersh, published a best-selling book, The Samson Option, detailing Mr Vanunu’s testimony Hersh’s book contained a great deal of new information about Israel’s vaunted nuclear defense capability

Since 1986, the overwhelming majority of the global population has known about Israel’s nuclear arsenal, but many Americans remain completely unaware of the existence of hundreds of nuclear warheads under the direct control of the Israeli defense establishment.
In the mid-1990s, Michael Moore – a person who is not known for his conservatism nor for his reflexive support for the policies of the state of Israel - made disparaging remarks during an interview that touched on the existence of the Israeli nuclear arsenal Moore made this gaffe because – even though he is usually well-informed – it was obvious that he was oblivious to either Mordechai Vanunu’s testimony or Mr Hersh’s bestselling book

In the reports linked below, The Sunday Times have now revealed new evidence that Israel is currently planning to launch a nuclear attack against Iran.
Aimed at destroying the embryonic Iranian nuclear industry, the Israeli missiles armed with nuclear warheads will be delivered via conventional jet fighters The Sunday Times reported that Israeli jet pilots are already undergoing advanced training to fire the nuclear warheads at targets in Iran - – in a tactical replay of their attack that destroyed Saddam Hussein’s nuclear reactor at Osirak in 1982

In The Sunday Times coverage, no reference was made to the possibility of a nuclear strike from Israeli submarines that have been equipped with cruise missiles that could be armed with nuclear warheads Military experts have been reporting the presence of Israel’s Dolphin class submarines in the Persian Gulf for the past two years ostensibly to support US naval operations in case Iran attempts to close the Straits of Hormuz

Two years ago, Seymour Hersh began publishing a series of papers in The New Yorker detailing a vast planning project in Donald Rumsfeld’s Pentagon to attack and wage war on Iran.
In the interim, many other authors have now reported details of the highly publicized policy of the Bush-Cheney White House to use military force to compel Iran to abandon any ambitions she might have to develop nuclear weapons These American military options involve the use of nuclear weapons sometimes called bunker busters that are designed for striking deeply embedded underground locations such as Iran’s nuclear laboratories

It is worthy of note that Elizabeth Cheney, the eldest daughter of Vice President Richard Cheney, is the US government official at the State Department responsible for a budget of circa $100 million per year to encourage “democracy” inside Iran – ie covert operations designed to construct a fifth column inside Iranian society that is hostile to the existing government

From a lengthening series of reports, it is now clear that the Bush-Cheney administration has been severely weakened by the recent midterm elections, and they apparently no longer feel capable of launching a direct nuclear strike against Iran using American forces, American weapons and America’s formidable nuclear arsenal In negotiations that took place in Washington between Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and President George Bush - as well as in the highly publicized negotiations between Vice President Dick Cheney and King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia - it would now appear that the joint planning to strike Iran has altered only slightly from the grandiose schemes originally designed by Donald Rumsfeld prior to his abrupt retirement on the day after the midterm elections last year

(Prime Minister Ehud Olmert)

According to The Sunday Times, there has been a slight re-calibration of the plans for the war against Iran Rather than a direct American nuclear strike against Iran’s hard targets, Israel has been given the assignment of launching a coordinated cluster of nuclear strikes aimed at targets that are the nuclear installations in the Iranian cities: Natanz, Isfahan and Arak

What remains to be seen is whether the American media - now ranked 53rd on the International Press Freedom Index - will cover the story, and whether the American people will be informed of the intimate collaboration between the Bush-Cheney White House, the Olmert government in Israel and other governments now known to be involved in the military planning to contain Iran’s still nascent nuclear development

Following The Sunday Times’ detailed coverage of Israeli’s plans to launch a nuclear strike against Iran, the government of Israel issued an unconvincing denial.
One Israeli official made an ambiguous statement when he said that the story could have been leaked intentionally in order to prevent the nation of Israel from doing something, “crazy” When Israeli government officials offer praise – even in this odd manner – it is time to take note that a political realignment may be taking place in Tel Aviv

In America, there is no doubt whatsoever that a major political realignment has already taken place.
The American Israel Political Action Committee (AIPAC) and its cheerleaders are concerned that the trend to criticize Israel is now intensifying both on the left and in the center of the political spectrum in the US The government of Israel’s support for the disasters brought about by the neoconservative ideology has triggered an American political backlash in the wake of years of disappointment over the war in Iraq – a war that was to have been the crowning achievement of the Bush-Cheney administration

Former President Jimmy Carter’s book, Palestine: Peace not Apartheid is now standing high on the bestseller lists even though he has faced a firestorm of protest from the Israel-Firsters led by Abraham Foxman, the formidable propagandist of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL)

Against this rapidly shifting backdrop, American politicians of both parties – and from all parts of the political spectrum: left, right and center - are now openly expressing their opposition to the war in Iraq That said, relatively few members of Congress have taken any position on the Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld plans for war with Iran

Last week, the new Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Joseph Biden (D-Delaware) challenged Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, about her inflammatory remarks threatening a military intervention to confront what she termed Iran’s “aggression.” In striking terms, Senator Biden warned Secretary Rice that Congress would not tolerate any US military attack across the Iraq-Iran border.
Senator Biden arrested Secretary Rice with his promise of a “constitutional confrontation” between Congress and the White House if President Bush orders US forces to cross the border Currently the most outspoken opponent of America’s plans to wage war on Iran in the US Congress, Senator Biden is an unannounced candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008

In a parallel development, top-ranking staff at the White House ordered Tony Snow to issue a weak statement designed to allay rising public concerns about expanding the unpopular war into Iran. Snow attempted to pour scorn on what he deemed to be an “urban legend” – that the Bush White House has made plans for war with Iran. Coming as they did in the aftermath of Condoleezza Rice’s provocative remarks about Iranian “aggression” and the highly publicized seizure of five Iranian officials by US forces in Iraq, Mr. Snow’s attempt to quell the concerns of Americans was underwhelming, unconvincing and little more than a transparent attempt to disinform the public.
The appointment of Mr Snow, a former personality from Fox News, was, perhaps, one of the worst of many questionable decisions made by a White House besieged on so many fronts

During his confirmation hearings last month, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates responded to a question about potential US military intervention against Iran.
Mr Gates stated that such an attack could have, “devastating consequences,” for America and her friends in the region

Mr. Gates was right. The reality is stark.
If Israel attacks Iran, she will be playing Russian roulette on a grand scale The retaliation from a broad spectrum of nations and multinational militias in the Middle East could bring about a concerted series of devastating hard power attacks against both Israeli and American forces arrayed in a dense cluster from Iraq to Kuwait, Qatar and the Persian Gulf

During his recent appearance at the Oxford Union, Avi Shlaim, one of the premiere historians of Israel, said,

“There was never any special relationship between America and Britain.
Whenever Bush was confronted with the choice of pleasing Blair or Sharon, he always sided with Sharon The real special relationship is between America and Israel”

There is an old adage in politics: It’s never your enemies who get you into trouble: it’s your friends

U. S. looks set to offer Israel powerful new anti-missile radar – M...

The Prime Directive -
US war plans targeting Iran are all about "protecting" Israel
*****************************************************************

Anti War Com
by Justin Raimondo
http://www. antiwar. com/justin/?articleid=12827

It looks like the War Party is victorious, at least according to Philip Giraldi writing on The American Conservative blog:

"There is considerable speculation and buzz in Washington today suggesting that the National Security Council has agreed in principle to proceed with plans to attack an Iranian al-Quds-run camp that is believed to be training Iraqi militants The camp that will be targeted is one of several located near Tehran Secretary of Defense Robert Gates was the only senior official urging delay in taking any offensive action"

Alarm bells ought to be going off across the nation The presidential candidates ought to be debating whether or not this is the right course Obama, the "antiwar" candidate, ought to be speaking out

Instead, what we hear is… silence.
If ever there was a scoop, then this is a major one Yet not a word is being spoken about it in the "mainstream" media So much for the supposedly highly competitive nature of the news business While I'm a very big fan of The American Conservative – hey, they made me an associate editor! – one has to wonder: why do we have to read this on their blog and nowhere else?

Of course, the reason could be because it's not true, but my sources are telling me that this isn't just "speculation and buzz" – it's for real War is imminent The markets sense it, too, which is why the price of oil keeps climbing to record levels

Giraldi has more:

"The White House contacted the Iranian government directly yesterday through a channel provided by the leadership of the Kurdish region in Iraq, which has traditionally had close ties to Tehran. The U.S. demanded that Iran admit that it has been interfering in Iraq and also commit itself to taking steps to end the support of various militant groups. There was also a warning about interfering in Lebanon. The Iranian government reportedly responded quickly, restating its position that it would not discuss the matter until the U.
S ceases its own meddling employing Iranian dissident groups The perceived Iranian intransigence coupled with the Lebanese situation convinced the White House that some sort of unambiguous signal has to be sent to the Iranian leadership, presumably in the form of cruise missiles"

A decision to go to war, sub rosa back-and-forth between Washington and Tehran using the Kurds (probably the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, which has close ties to Iran) as intermediaries, missile strikes near Tehran, the dissent of Robert Gates: all of this is very big news Yet not a word is reaching the general public

The same pattern that characterized the run-up to war with Iraq is being employed in the case of Iran.
We're acting on intelligence that is so overcooked the stench is overpowering There is no evidence these alleged training camps even exist, or, if they do, that their purpose is to train Iraqi "militants" Indeed, all efforts to show the media hard evidence for this phantom threat seem to have evaporated into thin air: these charges are the intelligence community's equivalent of "vaporware"

The irony is that this "training camp" tale is coming a bit late, because the Iranians did train, equip, and otherwise succor Iraqi "militants" all through the 1980s and '90s – such as the militants of the Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (now known simply as the Islamic Council), which is today the biggest of the parties in Baghdad's governing Shi'ite coalition. This is also true of the second largest component of the coalition, the Da'wa party – whose most prominent member is Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
Virtually all the present leaders of the government US soldiers are laying down their lives for, including Maliki, lived in Iran for years, where they were given sanctuary and sustenance by the mullahs

On the other hand, the Mahdi Army of Moqtada al-Sadr, which is presently taking on the government's armed forces, is anti-Iranian and vehemently nationalist, the only viable counterweight to Tehran's all-pervasive influence in postwar Iraq Yet we are providing air support to the Iraqi army and police units battling them in the streets of Sadr City

What sparked the decision to strike Iran wasn't anything happening on the ground in Iraq, however It's all about Lebanon As Giraldi puts it:

"The decision to go ahead with plans to attack Iran is the direct result of concerns being expressed over the deteriorating situation in Lebanon, where Iranian ally Hezbollah appears to have gained the upper hand against government forces and might be able to dominate the fractious political situation"

Translation: The Israelis are demanding war with Iran, and the national security bureaucracy – thoroughly riddled with and corrupted by the neocons – has capitulated

The Israeli failure to dislodge Hezbollah from its Lebanese fortress and subvert their growing political dominance – a direct result of the 2006 war – has Tel Aviv in a tizzy. The whole point of their "Clean Break" strategy, the linchpin of the American neocons' decade-long drive to embroil us in Iraq, has been compromised and even reversed by Hezbollah's continuing defiance.
Tel Aviv wants them taken out – by the US, which alone has the firepower to do it

This has been the real purpose of the "surge" all along – to prepare the ground for the final assault on Israel's deadliest enemy in the region, which is Iran.
This is why Israel's lobby in the US has made ratcheting-up tensions with Tehran their number-one priority, and clearly their relentless campaign is succeeding

Once again, the prime directive of US foreign policy in the Middle East stands revealed for all with eyes to see: it's all about Israel

It is surely not in our interests to go after Tehran: ideologically, the Shi'ite mullahs are a necessary counterweight to the Sunni fanatics who are swelling the ranks of al-Qaeda Yet we are actively encouraging and even funding similar groups, such as Jundallah, an Iranian Sunni terrorist group that apes al-Qaeda's tactics, such as beheading its victims As Seymour Hersh has reported, the same crazy covert operation is being carried out in Lebanon

None of this makes any sense, until and unless one realizes that the purpose of the Great Middle Eastern War has nothing to do with the pursuit of American interests and everything to do with Israeli interests.
Our foreign policy has been hijacked and placed at the disposal of a foreign power, one with a very powerful American lobby – so powerful that no US politician dares defy it, including the sainted Obama

In the early years of the war hysteria that enveloped the U.S. after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, I was met with a large degree of skepticism when I maintained that the main force behind the U.S.
attack on Iraq was the Israel lobby's influence Even my fellow anti-interventionists, including many on the Left, viewed this focus as an unreasonable and quite possibly unhealthy fixation, an exaggeration of a partial truth, rooted in a special animus for Israel Perhaps, they thought, it was even evidence of anti-Semitism

Yet as the years wear on and the facts pointing to the validity of my thesis accumulate, the reality can no longer be ignored Why, in the name of all that's holy, are we expanding a war that has proven to be such a monumental failure? Why are our leaders ignoring the evaluation of our own National Intelligence Estimate on the question of Iran's nuclear program – which shows that they abandoned their nascent nukes, just as Saddam did – and insisting that Tehran will soon wield a nuclear sword, perhaps against Israel? Why are American politicians defying their own war-weary people and launching a conflict that will doubtless prove even less popular than the one in which we are currently engaged?

None of this makes any sense unless we accept the hijacking thesis: U.S. policy is the captive of foreign interests, specifically Israeli interests. We are, all of us, held hostage by the Israel lobby, which has a stranglehold on the political establishment in this country.
That's not a "conspiracy theory," because it's no secret: the effort to mold US policy to suit Israeli interests is open to the point of brazenness

That's why Hillary Clinton can get away with threatening to "obliterate" an entire country – Iran, of course – in the name of "protecting" nuclear-armed Israel. And that's why Obama is silent on this issue, except to take Hillary to task for voting in favor of the Kyl-Lieberman resolution.
That resolution – passed overwhelmingly in both the House and the Senate – designated the Iranian Revolutionary Guards a "terrorist" organization and gave the president advance permission to bomb those "training camps," ie, Iranian military installations on Iranian territory

"The decision to proceed with plans for an attack is not final," Giraldi writes "The president will still have to give the order to launch after all preparations are made"

If it's down to George W Bush, who reportedly fears that Iran's acquisition of nukes will be his lasting legacy, then we're really in trouble An attack on Iran before his term is up seems a veritable certainty

Where is the antiwar movement? Where are the supposedly "antiwar" politicians of the Democratic Party? These folks are nowhere to be seen, and certainly they are not being heard The reason? They're cowards, who are – to a man and woman – beholden to the Lobby
MoveOn. org, for example, is running ads against a war that is already five years old and widely abhorred, but is silent when it comes to the next war, which could break out at any moment

The antiwar movement, such as it is, had better get up off its collective ass.
Because we don't have much time As the sand in the hourglass rapidly diminishes, the war cries of the neocons and their allies in both parties are getting louder and more insistent It's time to start making some noise of our own – before it's too late

NOTES IN THE MARGIN

One aspect of the Internet that has changed writing as an art is the matter of length. In the world of dead-tree publishing, it was almost impossible to find a venue for a 7,000-word essay like "Mishima: Paleocon as Samurai," my latest essay to appear in Taki's Magazine.
It was simply too expensive to put out Today, it's all very different At any rate, Mishima is one of my favorite writers, and I had great fun with this piece, so go check it out
